FAQ

Our goal is besides changing your nose that makes you look bad (harsh, nervous, sad, unhappy, old, tired) in other words negative with minor procedures to make you gain a ‘’fresh’’ appearance, is to create a nose that breaths healthily.

In the closed technique all the incisions are made inside the nose. The surgeon completes the operation without seeing the cartilages in nasal tip, by working from inside. And in the open technique by making an incision of 3-4 mm on the nasal tip, the nasal tip is opened. This way, it becomes possible to shape the nasal tip cartilages by seeing. Both techniques have their relative advantages and disadvantages. Your physician will tell which technique is suitable for your nose.

I use both techniques according to the condition of the problem in the nose. If there is no big problem in the nasal tip and rather there is more problem in the bone framework, I prefer the closed technique. If there is problem in the nasal tip also, I prefer the open technique.

The nose has its own bone and cartilage anatomical skeleton. During the surgery, by working on these structures, if there are big structures, they are reduced or the small structures are enlarged. The weak cartilages and bones are strengthened. Since the structures are different in every individual, different procedures are made.

The goal : Is to make an attractive and functional nose, for this, innately beautiful noses are taken as reference. However, not everybody has to have the same style of nose, they should not have, anyway. Besides the nose being unique to the face; factors like sex and race are also taken into consideration.

Of course, every job has a difficulty. Especially for a physician, creating a change on the face open to everybody’s comments is more difficult. Trying to resolve many factors independent of each other such as expectations of individuals, the nose structure, the postoperative process (the acceptance process) psychological factors (personality structures) etc altogether is difficult. From the perspective of the patient, the first one week, that is to say, the physical process is not actually very difficult. But patients who have not been properly prepared may go through a quite difficult phase in the process of accepting the new nose.

Both branches have physicians that are good in nose especially interested in rhinoplasty..

The physician’s experience in nose surgery is what matters. However, you will  make the most correct decision yourself about selecting your physician as a result of a good investigation .

Although there is no upper age limit in rhinoplasty, the lower age limit shows difference in boys and girls. Aesthetic nose surgery can be made starting from the age 16-17 in females and 17-18  in males.

– First we arrange an interview appointment for you.
– When you come for the interview, you see inside the nose with our endoscopic devices and you have your examination. Then, we take your photos to decide what we can do about the nose and we make the surgery planning over those pictures. You can have information about what kind of procedures will be applied to you as a result of the planning made.
– If you decide to have the surgery, our assistant will organize the appropriate operation day for you.

Some drugs may interact with anesthesia or their side effects may appear with the surgery. Notify your doctor about all the medicines you use for sure. Particularly Aspirin and its derivative drugs should be stopped one week before the surgery.

It is not recommended since there will be more bleeding, bruising and swelling especially on the first day of the menstruation.

Smoking affects wound healing negatively. It may also lead to bleeding. Therefore, we recommend to quit as early as possible prior to the surgery (latest one day before)  and also not to smoke for a certain period after the surgery.

Even simple infections such as common cold and flu prior to the surgery constitute an impediment for you to have the operation. It would be more appropriate for you to have surgery after full recovery. However, since very mild sore throat is already a condition frequently seen in patients with nasal obstruction, it would be useful for your doctor to see prior to the operation.

On the operation day come to the hospital in casual wear.Do not wear make-up.Leave your jewellery at home (wedding ring, necklace). If possible, prefer dresses with buttons and zipper. Do not prefer the ones pulled over the head. Do not use hair spray, gel, false nails, false eyelashes.

You come on an empty stomach when entering into any surgery. This is also valid for the nose. A fasting period of at least 6 hours is sufficient. Water is also included in that; however water may be drunk until two hours before provided that it is not too much.

You should be ready at the hospital 1-2 hours before the operation time. After the admission procedures are made, consent forms are signed and you pass to your room, your blood samples are taken. During this two-hour period your analyses required for anesthesia are made. Then, the anesthetist examines you in detail and investigates whether there is any condition hindering you to be narcotized. If there is any problem, you are taken to the surgery after the problem is eliminated.

Almost always I prefer general anesthesia. Contrary to popular belief, this type of anesthesia not being more risky, offers comfort both to the patient and the doctor.

After you are taken into the operation room, ECG electrodes will be attached to your body to evaluate the condition of your heart. In your room, serum will be applied through vascular access established generally in your left arm. A device showing oxygenation of the blood will be attached to your right finger and a blood pressure monitor will be tied to one of your arms. It will be ensured for you to sleep by the drugs given through the needle inserted to your vein or with the oxygen and anesthetic drug mixture you will breathe from the mask (in the meanwhile your surgery will be made and you will not feel this). We will take you to the recovery room to monitor your condition. After it is decided that you are thoroughly awake, you will be sent to the surgery clinic.

First of all, your nose should not be worse after the surgery and your doctor should guarantee this to you. If a possible problem happens to you (which is a problem that can never be predicted in advance) there is absolutely a solution for that. It is mostly corrected easily by a retouch-like procedure.

Duration of the surgery varies according to the problems in the patient, claims and the doctor’s experience. This duration is 2 hours at the average in us.

Although it is not mandatory, having somebody with you the first day would be good in respect of your psychology and comfort.

If no special problem develops after the surgery, you can easily be discharged the same day. -The observations made have shown that the wounds of the patients who return to daily life early heal more quickly. On the other hand, even the most excellent hospital cannot give the comfort at somebody’s home.

In recent years I almost only use silicone tampon. Silicone tampons are preferred because they allow breathing due to having wide holes in the center. No pain occurs when removing the Silicone Tampons on the 2nd day, however it is not a pleasant feeling, either.

In selected cases, shaping by filling, botox and thread lift that can enable the nose to look nicer can be made.

While redness or bruise occur in nearly 20% of our patients, more or less edema, swelling develops in almost all of them. While the swelling and bruises reach the peak the second day, they rapidly go down after the 3rd day.

Ice application to around the eyes with intervals of 15 minutes particularly the first day will reduce the bruises and swelling seriously. During ice application, the cast should be preserved and application should be made according to your doctor’s description. Benefit of additional cream applications has not been proved.

The cast and the tapes on the nose are removed on the 7th day unless a special condition develops.

Nasal obstruction upon the surgery is normal at the beginning. Since there will be silicones inside the nose the first two days, these will comfort you fairly even it is not a high quality breathing. The second day, with the removal of the silicones, the nose opens up. However, from time to time, the nose may be blocked with clot and nasal secretions. Sea water can be used to prevent this. If it remains blocked despite that, we clean the crusts and the nose is relieved. After three weeks, normal breathing starts. However, from time to time brief blockages may be experienced. Then that also disappears. If the nose is blocked although more than a period of six months have passed after the surgery, the probability of being a trouble regarding the surgery is high. In some nasal syndromes, the nose may be obstructed with nonsurgical causes in allergic conditions. In a probable case your doctor will inform you.

Of course; not only sinusitis, in all the intranasal disease, there is no drawback for the required intervention to made together.

First of all, you have to wait at least 6 months for the second surgery. The second surgery is absolutely not harder, however, we see that the patients are more stressed, impatient and worried since they have lost their confidence due the first surgery. The correctly made second surgery solves most problems other than the special cases.
